The Steelers opened with three consecutive wins, only to then drop a couple of close games to sit at 3-2 in early October.
They responded to those losses in fine style though, emarking on a five-game win streak that included an important 18-16 win over division rivals Baltimore.
Pittsburgh’s run was halted by a 24-19 defeat in Cleveland, but they responded with back-to-back division wins, downing Cincinnati 44-38 on the road and Cleveland 27-14 at home.
The Steelers failed to make it three wins in a row however, as they then fell to a 27-13 defeat in Philadelphia.
Baltimore Ravens Form
Baltimore return home on the back of a win, but in inconsistent form having gone 2-2 in their previous 4 games.
The Ravens limped out of the blocks with back-to-back defeats, but caught fire in late September and went on to reel off five consecutive wins.
That run was ended by a 29-24 defeat in Cleveland, but they rebounded with a couple of home wins, beating Denver 41-10 and Cincinnati 35-34,
Baltimore then lost 18-16 to Pittsburgh, only to bounce back immediately with a 30-23 victory at the Los Angeles Chargers.
The Ravens failed to follow that up as they then lost 24-19 to Philadelphia, although they again responded quickly to a loss, this time beating the New York Giants 35-14 on the road.
Verdict
Old school football is the order of the day when these two teams go head to head.
For the past several years they have engaged in low-scoring wars of attrition, and more of the same is expected in this latest meeting.
