Florida Panthers Form
Florida enter the Eastern Conference Finals on the back of a marathon series with Toronto and with an 8-4 record in the postseason so far.
The Panthers went 47-31-4 in the regular season to finish third in the Atlantic Division, and they made a dream start to the first round series with Tampa Bay.
They went out on the road to beat the Lightning 6-2 and 2-0, and then rebounded from a shock 5-1 home loss with 4-2 and 6-3 victories to wrap up the series.
Florida did not enjoy such a good start to the second round though, as they dropped back-to-back games in Toronto, 5-4 and 4-3.
The Panthers rallied at home with a 5-4 win in overtime and a 2-0 victory in regulation, and then put themselves on the brink of clinching with a big 6-1 road win in Game 5.
They failed to take their first chance, losing 2-0 at home, but they would not be denied in Game 7, beating the Maple Leafs 6-1 on the road.
Carolina Hurricanes Form
Carolina go into the Eastern Conference Finals having enjoyed much smoother progress through the playoff so far, going 8-2.
The Hurricanes went 47-30-5 in the regular season to take second place in the Metropolitan Division, and they have stepped things up in the postseason so far.
They made a flying start to the playoffs as they beat New Jersey 4-1 and 3-1 to take command of the series.
Carolina then bounced back from a 3-2 overtime loss on the road with a 5-2 victory in New Jersey, before sealing a 4-1 series success with a 5-4 overtime victory at home.
The Hurricanes enjoyed a winning start in the second round too, as they went out on the road to down Washington 2-1 in overtime.
They dropped the second meeting 3-1, but responded in style as they reeled off 4-0, 5-2 and 3-1 victories to secure another 4-1 series win.
Verdict
Carolina have cruised through the first couple of rounds and have been dominating on the home ice.
Florida, on the other hand, just had a marathon series with Toronto that saw them head out on the road three times, so give us the in-form and more rested Hurricanes in Game 1.
