Los Angeles Kings at Edmonton Oilers Preview & Picks

Edmonton are backed to draw first blood in this playoff series.

The Oilers had Los Angeles’ number in the regular season, and they have a strong recent record when hosting the Kings.

  • Edmonton Oilers are 11-3 in their last 14 home games
  • Edmonton Oilers are 7-2 in the last 9 meetings with Los Angeles
  • Edmonton Oilers are 5-1 in their last 6 home games against Los Angeles
  • The Under cashed in each of the 4 regular season meetings

Head To Head

  • Edmonton Oilers won the regular season series 3-1
  • Edmonton Oilers won 4-1 when the two teams last met on March 28

Los Angeles Kings Form

Los Angeles finished third in the Pacific Division standings after putting together a 44-27-11 record in the regular season.

The Kings ended that part of the campaign in solid form too, having won six of their final eight outings.

They snapped a three-game skid by beating Seattle 5-2, and backed up that victory by winning 2-1 in San Jose and 6-3 at home to Vancouver.

Los Angeles then bounced back from a 3-1 defeat in Anaheim with a 4-1 win over Calgary and a 3-1 victory against Anaheim, but failed to make it three-in-a-row as they lost 3-1 to Minnesota.

The Kings did wrap up the regular season with a victory though, beating Chicago 5-4 in overtime.

Edmonton Oilers Form

Edmonton compiled a 49-27-6 record in the regular season to finish second in the Pacific Division standings.

The Oilers missed out on claiming the division crown as they lost four of their final five regular season games.

They kept the heat on Vancouver by winning three straight games, beating Colorado 6-2, Calgary 4-2 and Vegas 5-1.

However, Edmonton’s momentum stalled when they lost 3-2 in overtime to Arizona, and then fell to a 3-1 defeat when they hosted Vancouver.

The Oilers avoided a third straight defeat by beating San Jose 9-2, but that proved to be their final regular season win as they then lost 5-2 in Arizona and 5-1 at Colorado.

Verdict

Edmonton dropped a bunch of games late in the regular season, but that has not put us off.

The Oilers are in great form at home and have a superb recent record against Los Angeles, so we expect a win for the hosts in Game 1.
