Minnesota earned their trip to the postseason by compiling a 45-30-7 record to finish fourth in the Central Division.
The Wild rallied late in the regular season, as they responded to a four-game skid by winning four of their final five games.
Their rough run started in late March as they lost 5-2 and 3-2 to New Jersey, and continued at the start of April as they fell 5-4 to the New York Rangers and 3-1 to the New York Islanders.
Minnesota steadied the ship with back-to-back overtime wins, beating Dallas 3-2 and San Jose 8-7, only to then suffer a 4-2 defeat when they visited Calgary.
The Wild issued a quick response though, recording 3-2 overtime victories against Vancouver and Anaheim.
Vegas Golden Knights Form
Vegas ensured another postseason berth by finishing top of the Pacific Division with a 50-22-10 regular-season record.
The Golden Knights also come into the playoffs on a solid run of form, having won five of their final seven games.
They started April with back-to-back defeats, but rallied on the road to beat Calgary 3-2 in overtime and Vancouver 3-2 in regulation.
Vegas then rebounded from a 3-2 shootout defeat to Colorado with a 2-1 win against Seattle and a 5-3 victory over Nashville.
The Golden Knights failed to make it three-in-a-row as they lost 5-4 in Calgary, but they bounced back to win their regular season finale, beating Vancouver 4-1.
Verdict
Vegas are the better team and they have repeatedly beaten Minnesota over the past few seasons.
