New Jersey Devils Form
New Jersey earned their trip to the playoffs by putting together a 42-33-7 record to finish third in the Metropolitan Division.
The Devils entered the postseason on a poor run of form though, and they have now lost five of their last six games.
They ended March with back-to-back wins and began April with a 4-0 shutout of the New York Rangers, only to cool off after that.
New Jersey suffered three consecutive home defeats, losing 7-2 to Boston, 4-2 to Pittsburgh and 1-0 to the New York Islanders.
The Devils avoided a fourth straight loss by beating Boston 5-4 in overtime on the road, but failed to back that up as they ended the regular season with a 5-2 loss to Detroit.
They then began the postseason with a 4-1 defeat to Carolina in the opening game of this series.

Carolina earned their spot in the postseason by compiling a 47-30-5 record to claim second place in the Metropolitan Division.
The Hurricanes ended the regular season in bad form though, losing seven of their final eight games.
They began April with a 5-1 win over Washington, but their form then nose-dived on the road as they lost 5-3 in Detroit, 5-1 at Boston, 3-0 in Buffalo and 5-4 at Washington.
Carolina avoided a fifth straight defeat as they beat the New York Rangers 7-3, but they failed to back that up.
The Hurricanes closed out the regular season by losing 4-1 to Toronto, 4-2 in Montreal and 7-5 at Ottawa, but that losing run ended in their playoff opener.
They gained the early lead in this series as they beat New Jersey over the weekend, 4-1.
Verdict
Carolina made a dominant start to this series and we expect them to back that up with a Game 2 win.
The Hurricanes have been stacking up wins on the home ice, while the Devils have gone cold at the wrong time.
