The Islanders were able to stem the tide and give themselves a lifeline in Game 4 though, running out 3-2 winners in overtime.
Carolina Hurricanes Form
Carolina head back home looking for one more win that would secure a place in the next round of the playoffs.
The Hurricanes finished the regular season with a 52-23-7 record, earning themselves second place in the Metropolitan Division.
They wrapped up the regular season in good form, winning seven of their final nine games, and that good run has continued in the postseason.
Carolina opened this series against New York with a 3-1 victory, and they backed that up by coming back from three goals down to win 5-3 in Game 2.
The Hurricanes then took a 3-0 lead with a 3-2 victory in New York, but they passed up on the opportunity to clinch in Game 4, losing 3-2 in overtime.
Verdict
Carolina passed up on the chance to advance at the weekend, but we expect them to take their second shot.
The Hurricanes have been in great form at home and despite the weekend defeat, they have a strong recent record against the Islanders.
