The Golden Knights compiled a 45-29-8 record in the regular season to finish fourth in the Pacific Division and advance to the postseason.
They lost four of their final seven games in the regular season, but made a red-hot start to the playoffs.
Vegas started this series on the road and continued their fantastic recent form in Dallas with 3-1 and 4-3 victories over the Stars.
However, the Golden Knights failed to build on those two success when they returned home, suffering 3-2 (OT) and 4-2 defeats to allow Dallas to knot up the series.

Dallas return home with momentum on their side after winning back-to-back road games to even up the series at 2-2.
The Stars surged into the playoffs thanks to a 52-21-9 regular-season record, which earned them top spot in the Central Division.
They won 12 of their final 14 games in the regular season, but dug themselves into an early hole in the postseason.
Dallas had home advantage for the opening two games against Vegas, but failed to make the most of it as they crashed to 4-3 and 3-1 defeats.
The left the Stars in serious trouble when they went out on the road, but they turned around this series in 'Sin City' thanks to 3-2 (OT) and 4-2 wins.
Verdict
Dallas have momentum, but Vegas have an outstanding recent record in the 'big D'.
The Golden Knights have won each of their last five games in Dallas, and that makes them an appealing underdog here.
