Alex de Minaur Returns as Defending Champion
Alex de Minaur arrives in Washington on the back of another strong grass-court swing, reaching the final in 's-Hertogenbosch, the quarterfinals at Queen's Club, and the fourth round at Wimbledon.
It marks an impressive turnaround after a difficult stretch earlier in the season, when he won only four matches across seven tournaments between Acapulco and Rome.
The Australian has now reached seven quarterfinals or better this season, in addition to making the fourth round at Wimbledon and the third round at the French Open, helping him maintain his place inside the top 10.
De Minaur returns to Washington as the defending champion. This will be his sixth appearance at the event. Although he has cleared the opening round only twice in his previous five visits, both runs ended in the final, finishing runner-up in 2018 before lifting the title last year.

Tsitsipas Seeks to Continue His Resurgence
Stefanos Tsitsipas captured his first ATP Tour title since Dubai last year by winning the Gstaad title, where he survived four consecutive three-set matches, including the final against Raphael Collignon.
The title run provided a huge confidence boost for the Greek, who has struggled with form and consistency over the past two seasons. Just a few weeks ago, he had dropped close to No. 90 in the rankings, but his success in Gstaad has lifted him back toward the top 50.
This will be Tsitsipas' third appearance in Washington. He reached at least the semifinals in both of his previous visits, in 2018 and 2019.
