Arthur Fils has never been the favourite against Alex de Minaur in their previous three meetings, but that changes this time. Fils has been operating at a much steadier level recently, while the Australian is going through one of the toughest phases of his career and has struggled to close out matches confidently, even against underdogs.

Fils Looks To Build On His Strong Masters Momentum

  • Arthur Fils has a 4–0 record in R16 matches at Masters events this year.
  • He has a 2–5 record against Top 10 players in 2026.
  • Alex de Minaur is currently on a four-match winning streak in R16 matches at Masters events.
  • He has not lost to a French opponent since the start of 2025.

Fils Brings His Masters Form to Cincinnati

Arthur Fils moved into the fourth round after defeating Jiri Lehecka in three sets, 6-1, 6-7, 6-3. He had multiple chances to close out the match in straight sets but was forced to play a decider before finishing strongly.

The 22-year-old suffered an injury in Rome and skipped the French Open, while also facing early exits in several recent tournaments. However, he has rediscovered his level since the tour returned to hard courts.

He has posted seven quarterfinal-or-better results this year, with four coming at Masters events, including runs in Indian Wells, Miami and Montreal, highlighting his strong record in this region.

De Minaur Seeks a Deeper Cincinnati Run

After defeating Quentin Halys from a set down in the opener, Alex de Minaur defeated Arthur Fery in straight sets to reach the fourth round in Cincinnati, 7-5, 7-6. He saved 11 of the 13 break points he faced and converted three of the four he created.

This is only the second time he has reached the Round of 16 in Cincinnati. His previous appearance came in 2019, when he lost to Yoshihito Nishioka in straight sets.

This is a much-needed result for the Australian after failing to defend his title in Washington and his quarterfinal points in Montreal last week.

Overall, he has reached seven quarterfinal-or-better results this year, although only one has come at Masters level, when he reached the third round in Monte Carlo.

Verdict

Fils' current form makes him the more reliable option, despite the shorter price against a top-10 opponent. De Minaur's recent struggles in closing out matches give the Frenchman an opportunity to take control, and Fils should be confident after his recent performances. Backing Arthur Fils to win and to win in straight sets.
