Rinderknech Seeks Momentum On Clay

Arthur Rinderknech began his Munich campaign with a solid 6-3, 6-3 win over Alex Michelsen. He did not face a single break point and converted three break chances in a dominant display.

Last year, he struggled on clay, playing six tour-level events during this stretch without registering multiple wins. His only notable result came later in the season with a semifinal run in Kitzbühel.

However, he made a strong rise in the rankings after a consistent second half of the year, including a final in Shanghai, fourth round at the US Open, and third rounds at Wimbledon and Cincinnati, reaching a career-high ranking of No. 26.

In 2026, he has played seven tournaments and recorded multiple main-draw wins only once, which came with a quarterfinal appearance in Dubai.

Fonseca Looks To Extend Progress

Joao Fonseca moved into the second round in Munich with a 7-6, 6-3 win over Alejandro Tabilo. He saved two of three break points and broke serve three times in a controlled performance.

The Brazilian has regained form after a slow start to the season. He had never won more than two matches at a Masters before this year but made a breakthrough with a fourth-round run at Indian Wells and a maiden Masters quarterfinal in Monte Carlo.

Fonseca recently dropped out of the top 30 after failing to defend points earlier in the year. With limited points to defend until the French Open, he has a strong opportunity to climb back up the rankings.

Verdict

With little changing since their recent meeting, Fonseca is expected to come out on top once again. Fonseca to win in straight sets looks the most likely outcome here.
