Jacob Fearnley defeated Adrian Mannarino 7-6, 6-4 to reach the second round in Montreal, recording his first main-draw victory at the Canadian Open.
The 25-year-old endured a difficult opening five months of the season, suffering numerous early exits. However, he has turned things around since June by reaching three Challenger finals and has carried that momentum into Montreal.
Fearnley has registered multiple main-draw wins at a Masters 1000 event only once in his career, when he reached the third round in Madrid in 2025. He will now be aiming to match that achievement this week.

Mensik Aims to Rebuild His Confidence
Jakub Mensik has struggled to put together deep runs since the start of the grass season, most recently suffering a three-set second-round defeat to Brandon Nakashima.
Earlier this year, the Czech enjoyed an outstanding run of results, winning the Auckland title, reaching the semifinals in Doha, the fourth round at the Australian Open, and later the semifinals at the French Open. Although he dropped out of the top 20 after failing to defend his Miami title, his Roland Garros run quickly lifted him back into that group.
This is Mensik's second main-draw appearance at the Canadian Open. On his tournament debut in Toronto last year, he received a first-round bye before reaching the third round.
