Nuno Borges is enjoying an excellent week in Mallorca, reaching his first semifinal of the season without dropping a set despite navigating a challenging draw. The Portuguese has looked increasingly confident with each match, and the conditions in Mallorca have suited his game perfectly.
In a typical grass-court event, Ethan Quinn would pose a greater threat, but Mallorca has traditionally been one of the more favorable grass tournaments for players with strong clay-court foundations. That should work in Borges' favor, given the amount of success he has enjoyed on clay throughout his career and Quinn's relative lack of experience at this level on grass.

Nuno Borges Eyes Second ATP Final
Nuno Borges moved into the Mallorca semifinals after defeating Luciano Darderi 7-6, 6-4. The Portuguese fired 10 aces and saved all four break points he faced during the match.
This is Borges' best result at a tour-level grass-court event. Before this week, he had recorded multiple main-draw wins on the surface only once, reaching the third round at Wimbledon. His previous grass-court quarterfinal in 's-Hertogenbosch, aided by a first-round bye, ended in defeat.
Although he has not made many deep runs this season, Borges has produced consistent results in the early rounds. His best performances include quarterfinals in Hong Kong and Barcelona, along with third-round appearances at the Australian Open and Roland Garros.
Borges has played only two tour-level semifinals in his career. He won the title in Bastad in 2024 and lost at this stage in Auckland last year.

Quinn Continues Breakthrough Week
After a comfortable win over Valentin Royer in the first round, Ethan Quinn needed three sets against Murphy Cassone and Vit Kopriva to reach the semifinals, winning 6-3, 6-7, 6-3 and 5-7, 7-5, 6-3 respectively.
This is the best grass-court result of Quinn's career. Before this week, he had never progressed beyond the second round on the surface.
The run comes at an important time after Quinn arrived this week having lost five of his last six matches across all levels. His best results this season include third-round appearances at the Australian Open and Miami, along with a couple of semifinal-or-better finishes on the Challenger Tour.
This is Quinn's first tour-level semifinal. Before this week, he had lost all 10 of his previous round-of-16 matches at tour level.
