Bergs Ends Grass-Court Slump
Zizou Bergs moved into the Eastbourne semifinals after defeating Jan Choinski 6-3, 6-3. It was his third straight-sets victory of the week, and he has not lost more than six games in any of his three matches.
Before arriving in Eastbourne, Bergs was on a six-match losing streak on grass and had not won a match on the surface since reaching the final in 's-Hertogenbosch last year. That remains his only previous grass-court semifinal.
The Belgian also arrived this week on a six-match losing streak at tour level. Before this tournament, his only multiple main-draw wins on the ATP Tour in the past six months came during his third-round run in Monte Carlo.

Samuel Makes Most of Lucky Loser Opportunity
Toby Samuel moved into the semifinals after defeating Thiago Agustin Tirante and Juan Manuel Cerundolo in back-to-back straight-set matches. The Brit entered the main draw as a lucky loser and has made full use of the opportunity.
Before this week, Samuel had played only two ATP main-draw matches this season, with both ending in defeats at Roland Garros and Queen's Club.
Samuel started the season outside the top 250 in the rankings but produced several strong results on the Challenger Tour, winning back-to-back titles in Hersonissos and reaching the semifinals in Madrid and Nottingham. His run this week has lifted him close to the top 120 in the live rankings.
