The Defenders opened the season with a run of six consecutive victories as they took control of top spot in the North Division.
They beat Seattle 22-18 and downed St Louis 34-28 at home and 28-20 on the road as they appeared to be cruising towards the playoffs.
DC suffered a sensational defeat in Week 7 though, as they lost 37-36 to the previously winless Orlando Guardians at Camping World Stadium.
The Defenders rebounded a week later with a massive 34-33 win at Seattle that go them back on track.
They then backed that up with a 28-26 overtime win against Arlington, before staging a last-gasp fightback to win 29-28 in San Antonio in Week 10.
