Atlanta Braves at San Francisco Giants Picks & Betting Tips

Atlanta (76-69) sits atop of the NL East ahead of Philadelphia (2.0 games) and the New York Mets (5.5).

The Braves have lost three straight and is 5-5 in their last 10 games. Atlanta is 39-33 on the road and 23-16 vs. LHPs.

Morton has been the Braves most reliable starter and the 36-year-old has been fantastic in the second of the season. He is 5-2 with a 3.27 ERA, 0.985 WHIP and produces 10.6 strikeouts per 9 innings.

San Francisco (96-52) has the best record in the majors, although the Giants hold just a two-game advantage over the Dodgers in the NL West.

The Giants have lost two of their last three games and are 8-2 over the last 10.  San Francisco is 48-25 at home and 70-33 against RHPs.

Wood is making his first appearance since testing positive for Covid on August 30. The 30-year-old had been pitching well prior to his stint on the Covid list, allowing two runs in each of his last three starts.

Head To Head

The Giants defeated the Braves 6-5 in 11 innings on Friday night as pitcher Kevin Gausman drove in Brandon Crawford with a pinch-hit sac fly.

The season-series is knotted at 2-2. Atlanta has outscored San Francisco 20-16 over the first four games.

Atlanta Braves Form

The Braves are 6-8 in September, outscoring their opponents 70 -61.

Atlanta’s offense has compiled 5.0 runs over the last 12 contests with a slash line of .245/.308/.463.

Atlanta’s pitching staff is 5-7 during this 12-game stretch with a 4.10 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and .209 OBA.

San Francisco Giants Form

San Francisco snapped a two-game losing streak with its victory over Atlanta on Friday. The Giants have won 10 of 12.

The Giants are 12-4 in September, outscoring their opponents 104-63.

San Francisco’s offense has produced 6.9 runs over the last 14 games with a slash line of .295/.387/.549.

The Giants’ pitching staff has compiled a 11-3 record during this 14-game stretch with a 3.39 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and .243 OBA.

Verdict

This is an important game and series for two of the NL’s division leaders. Just like Friday’s night contest, Game 2 should be a fantastic game. Morton and Wood have both been very good lately. The Giants and Braves also have been raking it at the plate.

Atlanta is not in-form, and the Braves have the Phillies breathing down their necks for the top spot in the NL East. Morton, who is 4-4 against the Giants in his career, has been terrific on the road – 2.91 ERA, .179 OBA – and at night (.202 OBA) this year. The Braves have hit well at night and on the road this year, although they have been below average against left-handers.

San Francisco are in outstanding form and has been the best team in the majors this year as the Giants rank in the top 5 in both hitting and pitching. While Wood has pitched well lately, there is some concern how effective and long he can go in his first start since dealing with Covid. Wood has not fared too well against the Braves in his career; however he has been highly effective Oracle Park and at night.
