New York head to Washington in control of the series thanks to back-to-back wins at Madison Square Garden.
The Rangers finished top of the Metropolitan Division by compiling a 55-23-4 regular-season record.
And although they dropped a few games late on in the regular season, they did wrap up that part of the campaign with back-to-back wins.
New York kept that win streak going in the opening game of this series with Washington, easing to a 4-1 win over the Capitals.
The visitors put up more of a fight in the second matchup, but the Rangers again came out on top, this time winning 4-3.

Washington return home in desperate need of a victory following back-to-back defeats in New York.
The Capitals compiled a 40-31-11 record during the regular season, and that was enough to secure fourth place in the Metropolitan Division.
A run of six straight losses late in the regular season almost cost them a playoff place, but they finished strong with four wins in their final five games.
Washington failed to keep that good run going though, dropping the first two games of this postseason series with the New York Rangers.
They fell to a 4-1 defeat in the series opener, and then lost 4-3 in Game 2 to dig themselves into an early hole.
Verdict
New York's last couple of trips to Washington have not gone well, but we are not abandoning them.
The Rangers have been in good form over the past several weeks and overall they have tended to get the better of Washington in recent meetings.
