Mikaela Mayer vs Chantelle Cameron Predictions & Picks

Mikaela Mayer is tipped to leave Birmingham as the unified super-welterweight champion.

Mayer is excellent at stringing together scoring punches in short bursts, while avoiding getting drawn into a reckless fire-fight, and that cleaner work can be the difference in the minds of the judges.

  • 14 of Mikaela Mayer’s 22 wins have come via decision
  • Each of Mikaela Mayer’s last 16 fights went the distance
  • Chantelle Cameron has gone the distance in 12 of her last 13 fights
  • Chantelle Cameron’s only defeat came via decision

Mikaela Mayer Form

Mikaela Mayer is the current WBA, WBC and WBO super-welterweight champion with a professional record of 22-2 (5 KOs).

Mayer entered the professional ranks in 2017, and over the next three years she rattled off 13 consecutive victories to earn her first world title fight in October 2020.

She claimed the vacant WBO super-featherweight title with a unanimous decision win over Ewa Brodnicka, and in her first defence the following June she out-pointed Erica Farias.

The 36-year-old American added the IBF and Ring Magazine titles with a points win over Maiva Hamadouche in late 2021, and successfully defended all three belts in April 2022 as she downed Jennifer Han on points.

However, Mayer’s reign and perfect run was brought to a halt in October of that year as she lost a unification fight with Alycia Baumgardner by split decision.

She rebounded in her next outing to beat Lucy Wildheart by unanimous decision to claim the interim WBC lightweight title, and then registered a points success against Silvia Bortot to land another world title fight in early 2024.

However, that night ended in disappointment for the American, as she suffered a split decision defeat to IBF welterweight champion Natasha Jonas.

Mayer has not lost since though, recording back-to-back decision wins over Sandy Ryan to win and then successfully defend the WBO welterweight crown.

Then, in October of last year, she beat Mary Spencer on points to claim the WBA, WBC and WBO super-welterweight titles.

Chantelle Cameron Form

Chantelle Cameron is the current WBO super-welterweight champion with a career record of 22-1 (8 KOs).

Cameron turned professional in May 2017, and before the end of her debut year she claimed the IBO lightweight title, stopping Viviane Obenauf in six rounds.

She made two successful defences of that crown before moving up to light-welterweight, where she became a two-weight world champion by beating Adriana Arajuo on points for the vacant WBC belt in October 2020.

The 35-year-old English fighter knocked out Melissa Hernandez in the fifth round in her fist defence, and then added the IBF and Ring Magazine titles by out-pointing Mary McGhee.

Cameron then registered back-to-back unanimous decision wins over Victoria Bustos and Jessica McCaskill to set up a fight with women’s boxing legend Katie Taylor in May 2023.

‘Capo’ registered the biggest win of her career to date, as she stunned the Irish crowd with a majority decision win over Taylor.

Her reign was ended in the rematch though, as she lost a majority decision to Taylor in November of that year, but she has not tasted defeat since then.

She beat Elhem Mekhaled on points to win the interim WBC super-lightweight title, and then defended that belt with decision victories over both Patricia Berghult and Jessica Camara.

Cameron then stepped up to super-welterweight in April of this year to beat Michael Kostaskova on points for the vacant WBO championship.

Verdict

Mikaela Mayer may be fighting in enemy territory here, but we expect her to get the job done.

Her cleaner work in the pair’s exchanges can secure her a verdict from the judges.
