Arthur Fery has experienced the best phase of his career over the last few months, starting with his semi-final run at Wimbledon and followed by a rapid rise into the top 50 of the ATP rankings.

With the confidence he is carrying right now, combined with his familiarity with American conditions from playing plenty of tennis in this region during his college days and on the lower-level circuits, Fery looks to be in a strong position here.

Fery Looks to Carry His Rise Into Winston-Salem

Arthur Fery defeated Cruz Hewitt in straight sets to move into the second round in Winston-Salem, 6-1, 7-5. He trailed 1-4 in the second set and also faced five set points before producing a comeback to close out the match in straight sets.

The 24-year-old had not registered multiple main-draw wins on tour until the grass season last month, but his run to the quarterfinals at Queen's Club and semifinal at Wimbledon helped him make his Top 100 debut and reach a career-high ranking of No. 36 recently.

He is now looking to reach his third tour-level quarterfinal of the year and his first on hard courts as he looks to build further momentum.

Mees Rottgering's Dream Run Continues

Mees Rottgering produced another upset by defeating Tomas Machac in straight sets to reach the third round this week, 6-4, 7-6. He won 82% of his first-serve points and saved six of the seven break points he faced.

Before this week, he had never won a main-draw match on tour or defeated a Top 100 player. He has now achieved both, including back-to-back wins over Top 100 opponents, highlighting his rising confidence and ability.

He had never reached the quarterfinals above the M25 ITF level in his career. He will now look to reach his first tour-level quarterfinal and extend his remarkable run this week.

Verdict

Fery's current confidence and strong familiarity with the conditions make him the player to back in this matchup. He has been enjoying a breakthrough period in his career and should have enough momentum and quality to continue that progress with a convincing performance.

Backing Arthur Fery to win, win in straight sets and cover the -2.5 games handicap makes plenty of sense.
