The penultimate LIV Golf Invitational Series tournament takes place in Saudi Arabia on a golf course familiar to the players. Who will come out on top in Jeddah?
The Royal Greens Golf and Country Club is the course used for the Saudi International tournament on the Asian Tour.
Past and present major winners in the lineup include Sergio Garcia, Dustin Johnson, Martin Kaymer, Brooks Koepka, Cameron Smith, Patrick Reed, Charl Schwartzel, Graeme McDowell, Louis Oosthuizen, Henrik Stenson, Bryson DeChambeau and Phil Mickelson.
These are our selections that could win the title this weekend.
Dustin Johnson
Dustin Johnson has been the standout golfer in the LIV Golf Invitational Series tournaments, culminating in him clinching the individual title with the most points earned and pocketing a whopping $18 million in the process.
Johnson placed 8th in London, T3 in Portland, T2 in Bedminster, victory in Boston, T2 in Chicago, and T15 in Bangkok.
Before switching to the LIV Golf Invitational Series, the American had solid form on the greens of the PGA Tour, with his best results being T25 at the Farmers Insurance Open, T9 at the Players Championship, 4th at the WGC Dell Technologies, T12 at the Masters, T24 at the US Open, and T6 at the Open Championship.
The former world number one golfer has a superb record at the Royal Greens Golf and Country Club, winning the Saudi International in 2019 and 2021, finishing runner-up in 2020 and T8 this year.
Johnson has an incredible record on this golf course and is the favourite to win the title in Jeddah.
Patrick Reed
Patrick Reed came close to winning his maiden LIV Golf Invitational Series event when he finished runner-up in Bangkok last week.
Reed has achieved excellent results on the breakaway tour, placing T3 in Portland, 5th in Bedminster, T31 in Boston, and T12 in Chicago.
Other notable results the 32-year-old has achieved on the PGA Tour and DP World Tour include placing T15 at the Tournament of Champions, T26 at the Players Championship, T26 at the WGC Dell Technologies Match Play, T35 at the Masters, T34 at the PGA Championship, T7 at the Charles Schwab Challenge and T5 at the BMW PGA Championship.
The American has featured at the Saudi International four times, finishing 56th, MC, T66, and T38 earlier this year.
Reed has been ultra-consistent in the LIV Golf Series tournaments, and if he keeps replicating that form, he will be in with a chance to win this tournament.
Paul Casey
Paul Casey played nine tournaments before joining the LIV Golf Invitational Series.
The 45-year-old missed the cut at the Shriner's Children's Open before finishing T25 at the CJ Cup, T16 at the SMBC Singapore Open, T12 at the Dubai Desert Classic, T24 at the Saudi International and T15 at the Genesis Invitational.
Casey's form became erratic, finishing 72nd at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, 3rd at the Players Championship and T53 at the Open Championship.
The Englishman has featured at four LIV Golf Invitational Series events, placing T6 in Bedminster, T21 in Boston, T21 in Chicago, and T3 in Bangkok this past weekend.
He has played at the Saudi International twice, placing T12 overall in 2021 and T24 earlier this year.
Casey brings excellent form into this tournament and has claims to win in Saudi Arabia.
Brooks Koepka
Brooks Koepka has featured at five LIV Golf Invitational Series tournaments since its inception, finishing T16 in Portland, T11 in Bedminster, T26 in Boston, T21 in Chicago, and T8 in Bangkok, his best result to date.
The four-time major champion played 12 events on the PGA Tour before joining the controversial tour, with his best performances being T28 at the Tournament of Champions, T3 at the Phoenix Open, T16 at the Honda Classic, T12 at the Valspar Championship and T5 at the WGC Dell Technologies Match Play.
The 32-year-old American has contested the Saudi International twice, finishing T57 in 2019 and T17 in 2020.
Koepka has been threatening to put in a big performance and will fancy his chances after his last result to crack his maiden LIV Golf Invitational Series victory come Sunday.
Format
An invitational field of 48 golfers will feature at the tournament, with a total purse of $25 million up for grabs. $4 million will go to the winner, while the player coming in last will pocket $120,000.
The players will contest 54 holes instead of the traditional 72 for all the LIV Golf Invitational Series events.
A shotgun start will occur, where the players will tee off simultaneously from different holes.
A 12-four-man team format will run concurrent, with the top three teams earning prize money.
Verdict
Johnson loves the Royal Greens Golf and Country Club and will be hard to stop.
Reed has been knocking hard and will be in with a chance to lift the trophy in Saudi Arabia.
Casey has been consistent since joining the LIV Golf Invitational Series and can challenge for the trophy.
Koepka showed enough in his last tournament to be in contention in Jeddah.
