The Cubs’ good run started in Seattle, where they rebounded from a 4-2 defeat to the Mariners with 4-1 and 3-2 victories.
They then moved on to Arizona for a successful series against the Diamondbacks that saw thme sandwich a 12-11 defeat with 3-2 and 5-3 wins.
Chicago returned home after that and split a four-game series with Miami, before sweeping Houston with 7-2, 4-3 and 3-1 victories.
The Cubs then won the series opener in Boston, 7-1, only to drop the next two meetings with the Red Sox, 17-0 and 5-4.
New York Mets Form
New York entered this series on the back of a win, but having cooled off with five defeats in their previous seven games.
The Mets made a rough start to the season as they lost their first five outings, but they soon kick-started their campaign.
They won 12 times in a 15-game spell – a run that included a six-game win streak and a couple of road wins over the Los Angeles Dodgers.
New York dropped the final meeting with the Dodgers though, 10-0, and that began a dip in form as they lost two of their three games in San Francisco.
The Mets returned home after that and suffered 4-2 and 7-4 defeats to St Louis, but managed to avoid being swept as they took the final game 4-2.
Verdict
Chicago are backed to follow up last night's road win over the Mets.
The Cubs have been piling up wins over the past few weeks and Javier Assad continues to deliver as a starter.
