They then sandwiched a 6-5 defeat in Atlanta with 8-7 and 16-4 victories over the Braves to edge closer to .500.
That pattern continued at home as New York then won two of their three meetings with Kansas City, beating the Royals 6-1 and 2-1 either side of an 11-7 loss.
The Mets did not drop a game in their most recent series though, as they swept Pittsburgh with a 6-3, 3-1 and 9-1 wins.
Los Angeles Dodgers Form
Los Angeles enter this series on a disappointing run of form, having now lost five of their last seven games.
The Dodgers made a strong start to the season as they won 10 of their first 15 games, but their form has cooled off since they failed to sweep Minnesota on the road.
They won the first two meetings with the Twins at Target Field, 4-2 and 6-3, but they missed out on the sweep by losing the final encounter 3-2.
Los Angeles then returned home to face San Diego and they sandwiched a 5-2 victory over the Padres with 8-7 and 6-3 defeats.
The Dodgers did the same against Washington too, as they lost 6-4 and 2-0 either side of a 6-2 success.
Verdict
New York are in great form and are scoring consistently, while Los Angeles have been stacking up losses over the past several days.
That makes the Mets an appealing underdog for tonight's series opener at Dodger Stadium.
