Cory Sandhagen vs Deiveson Figueiredo Preview & Picks
Cory Sandhagen is tipped to win this main event fight via decision.
Sandhagen has both a height and reach advantage and we expect him to make the most of it here, like he has done many times in the past.
He can control both the distance and the pace of the fight to earn the nod from the judges.
- 5 of Cory Sandhagen’s last 6 fights have gone the distance
- Deiveson Figueiredo’s previous loss at bantamweight came on points
- Cory Sanhagen lands 5.02 significant strikes per minute (Figueiredo 2.91)
- Cory Sandhagen has a 6” height advantage
Cory Sandhagen Form
Cory Sandhagen is the number four ranked bantamweight contender with a professional record of 17-5 (7 KOs, 3 Subs).
Sandhagen made his UFC debut back in January 2018 and quickly climbed the ladder as he won five straight fights.
That earned him a bantamweight title eliminator in June 2020, but he came up short on the night as he was submitted by Aljamain Sterling in the first round.
The 33-year-old American rebounded with knockout wins against Marlon Moraes and Frankie Edgar, only for his momentum to stall with two defeats in 2021.
Sandhagen dropped a split decision to TJ Dillashaw and then suffered a unanimous decision defeat in a fight with Petr Yan for the interim bantamweight title.
He put that loss behind him in his only outing of 2022, stopping Song Yadong in four rounds, and backed it up in 2023 as he beat both Marlon Vera and Rob Font on points.
‘The Sandman’ failed to make it four-in-a-row though, as he lost by decision to Umar Nurmagomedov in a bantamweight title eliminator last November.
Deiveson Figueiredo Form
Deiveson Figueiredo is a former two-time UFC flyweight champion and the current fifth-ranked bantamweight contender with a career record of 24-4-1 (9 KOs, 9 Subs).
Figueiredo debuted in the UFC in June 2017 and reeled off four consecutive wins before losing via decision to Jussier Formiga.
The 37-year-old Brazilian responded to that setback though, out-pointing Alexandre Pantoja and submitting Tim Elliott to earn a fight for the vacant flyweight title.
He missed weight for the contest, making him ineligible to win the title, but he did have his hand raised as he knocked out Joseph Benavidez in the second round.
Figueiredo and Benavidez fought again several months later, and this time the Brazilian made weight so his submission victory earned him the flyweight crown.
‘Daico’ tapped out Alex Perez in his first defence, and then engaged in a thrilling four-fight rivalry with Brandon Moreno that saw the title change hands multiple times.
The first fight went to a majority draw, allowing Figueiredo to retain, but he then lost the rematch via third-round submission.
The Brazilian regained the title via decision in the trilogy fight, only to suffer a TKO defeat when the two men met for the fourth and final time in that run.
Figueiredo moved up to bantamweight after the loss and quickly made his mark as he beat Rob Font on points, Cody Garbrandt via submission and Marlon Vera by decision.
He failed to make it four wins in a row though, as he dropped a decision to Petr Yan last November.
Verdict
Cory Sandhagen’s size advantage will be a massive factor in this main event fight.
He can control how this fight plays out for five rounds, earning him the victory on the scorecards.
