Rafael Fiziev vs Mateusz Gamrot Preview & Picks

Rafael Fiziev is tipped to return to winning ways at UFC Fight Night.

Fiziev’s good takedown defense will allow him to keep the fight standing, where he has the edge.

His volume and power are backed to be too much for Mateusz Gamrot, resulting in a stoppage.

  • 9 of Fiziev’s 12 career wins have come via KO/TKO or submission
  • 3 of Fiziev’s last 5 fights have ended inside the distance
  • Fiziev lands 5.06 significant strikes per minute (Gamrot 3.03)
  • Fiziev has a 90% takedown defense (Gamrot 90%)

Rafael Fiziev Form

Rafael Fiziev is the #6 ranked lightweight contender with a professional record of 12-2 (8 KOs, 1 Sub).

Fiziev debuted in the UFC back in April 2019 and endured a nightmare first outing, losing via first-round TKO to Magomed Mustafaev.

He rebounded in his next fight though, besting Alex White on points, and then followed that up with a unanimous decision win over Marc Diakiese.

‘Ataman’ then registered his first stoppage win under the UFC banner, knockout out Renato Moicano in the first round.

Fiziev’s next outing saw him beat Bobby Green via unanimous decision in August 2021, and he followed that up later that year by knockout out Brad Riddell in the third round.

That victory earned the 30-year-old the biggest fight of his career so far in the form of a meeting with former UFC champion Rafael dos Anjos.

He made the most of that opportunity by knockout out RDA in the final round to take his win streak to six fights.

Fiziev was unable to make it seven-in-a-row though, dropping a majority decision to Justin Gaethje back in March.

Mateusz Gamrot Form

Mateusz Gamrot is the #7 ranked lightweight contender with a professional record of 22-2 (7 KOs, 5 Subs) and 1 No Contest.

Like his opponent on Saturday, Gamrot also tasted defeat in his UFC debut, losing a split decision to Guram Kutateladze.

He rebounded in his next fight though, knocking out Scott Holtzman to start a run of three consecutive stoppage wins.

‘Gamer’ submitted veteran Jeremy Stephens inside 65 seconds and then stopped Carlos Diego Ferreira with strikes in the second round.

Gamrot kept the wins coming in his next outing as he beat Arman Tsarukyan on points, but his streak would come to an end at four fights.

The 32-year-old went three rounds with Beneil Dariush, but at the end of the contest it was his opponent who had his hand raised.

Gamrot rebounded in March though, as he edged a split decision over Jailin Turner to keep his place in the top 10.

Verdict

Fireworks are always on the cards when Rafael Fiziev enters the Octagon.

We are expecting more excitement here as he makes his work rate and power pay off in a stoppage win.
