The level of competition improved after that and they went on to lose six consecutive games, including a dramatic four overtime showdown with Indiana on the road.
Akron finally snapped their skid with a 31-27 win over Kent State on November 1, but that proved to be their last win of the campaign as they signed off with three consecutive defeats.

The Buckeyes instead had to settle for a Cotton Bowl clash with Missouri and suffered a 14-3 defeat in their final outing of 2023.
