Boston College enter the 2024 season looking to bounce back from a 2023 campaign that saw them go 7-6 and miss out on playing for the conference championship.
The Eagles made a miserable start as they were beaten 27-24 at home by Northern Illinois, and they then lost two of their next three, including a 31-29 loss to Florida State.
They kick-started their season between late September and early November as they embarked on a five-game win streak.
Boston College cooled off after that though, as they lost each of their final three games of the regular season, all against ACC opposition.
The Eagles’ seven wins was enough to earn a Bowl invite though, and they wrapped up the season with a 23-14 upset of a ranked SMU team in the Fenway Bowl.
Florida State Form
Florida State go into their home opener looking to bounce back from a shock defeat in Dublin last weekend.
They scored first in Ireland but failed to pull away, and they were punished when Georgia Tech converted a 44-yard walk-off field goal to win it 24-21.
It was a bad start for a Seminoles team that began the season as a top-10 unit with College Football Playoffs ambitions.
Florida State infamously missed out on the playoffs last season, despite compiling a perfect ACC record and clinching the conference title.
A season-ending injury to quarterback Jordan Travis played a major part in their playoff snub, but they at least signed off on a positive note as they blew out Georgia, 63-3, in the Orange Bowl.
Verdict
While it is too early to totally jump ship on Florida State, last week’s loss has set off alarm bells.
The offense had issues in both the run game and the pass game in the shock defeat, so give us Boston College and the points in what could be a closer game than the bookies expect.
