Miami enter the quarter-finals of the college football playoffs having won 12 of their 14 games so far this season.
The Hurricanes opened with a 27-24 victory at home Notre Dame, and then reeled off three in-State wins as they beat South Florida 49-12, Florida 26-7 and Florida State 28-22.
Their playoff hopes suffered a massive setback as they lost 24-21 to Louisville, and they then failed to back up a 42-7 demolition of Stanford as they were beaten 26-20 at SMU.
That left Miami needing to win out, and they did just that as they reeled off four straight wins, beating Syracuse 38-10, NC State 41-7, Virginia Tech 34-17 and Pitt 38-7.
Miami were rewarded with a place in the playoffs, and they caused an upset in the first round as they visited College Station and took down Texas A&M, 10-3.
Ohio State Form
Ohio State kick off their playoff campaign having gone 12-0 in the regular season, only to then lose in the Big Ten Championship.
The defending champion Buckeyes kicked off the campaign with a 14-7 victory over Texas, and backed that up with a couple of non-conference wins before opening their Big Ten schedule with wins over Washington, 24-6, and Minnesota, 42-3.
They followed that up on the road as they beat Illinois 34-16 and Wisconsin 34-0, before backing up a 38-14 victory at home to Penn State with a 34-10 success at Purdue.
Ohio State then closed out the regular season with home wins over UCLA, 48-10, and Rutgers, 42-9, before downing rivals Michigan 27-9 on the road.
That set up a Big Ten Championship showdown with Indiana, but for the second year in a row the Buckeyes came up short in the conference championship, this time losing 13-10.
Verdict
Miami sent a message as the defense dominated Texas A&M, but Ohio State could be a step too far.
