Kansas City Chiefs vs San Francisco 49ers Preview & Picks

Kansas City are tipped to win back-to-back Super Bowls.

The Chiefs’ defense has been great, and despite issues on offense they still have Patrick Mahomes.

His postseason record is spectacular, so I am done doubting Mahomes, Andy Reid & Co. this season!

  • Kansas City Chiefs are 3-0 as a betting underdog this season
  • Kansas City Chiefs are 5-1 in the last 6 meetings with San Francisco
  • Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is 14-3 in playoff games
  • The Under has cashed in 12 of Kansas City’s last 16 games
  • These 2 teams allow a combined average of 34.6 points per game
  • Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has scored 19 touchdowns in 21 playoff appearances

Head To Head

  • Kansas City Chiefs lead the all-time series 8-7
  • Kansas City Chiefs won 44-23 when the two teams last met in October 2022

Kansas City Chiefs Form

Kansas City head to Super Bowl LVIII riding a five-game win streak that has put them in the big game for the fourth time in five years.

The Chiefs, who beat Philadelphia in last season’s Super Bowl, kicked off their defence of the Vince Lombardi Trophy with a surprise home defeat to Detroit, but quickly rebounded.

They won six straight games and went into their bye week in November boasting a 7-2 record.

However, Kansas City’s form collapsed when they returned to action as they lost four times during a six-game spell to cost themselves the #1 seeding in the AFC.

The Chiefs did wrap up the regular season with a couple of wins though, beating Cincinnati 25-17 and the Los Angeles Chargers 13-12.

They then downed Miami, 26-7, in the Wildcard round on a brutally cold night at Arrowhead – their final home game of the campaign.

Since then Kansas City have been on the road, but that has not prevented them from booking a place in the Super Bowl.

The Chiefs downed Buffalo 27-14 in the Divisional round, before battling past Baltimore, 17-10, in the AFC Championship Game.

San Francisco 49ers Form

San Francisco are headed to the Super Bowl for the first time since their defeat to Kansas City in the NFL’s biggest game in February 2020.

The 49ers made an early statement as they raced out of the blocks with five straight wins, including a 42-10 demolition of Dallas.

Their form nose-dived after that win over the Cowboys though, as they lost three consecutive games to go into their bye week with a 5-3 record.

San Francisco’s response was strong though, as a 34-3 demolition of Jacksonville sparked a six-game win streak that got them back on track.

That sequence included a couple of big division wins over Seattle, as well as a 42-19 blowout of Philadelphia on the road in a rematch from last season’s NFC Championship Game.

The 49ers lost two of their final three regular season games, but playoff football and homefield advantage was secured at that point.

San Francisco enjoyed a bye on Super Wildcard Weekend, before returning to action in the Divisional Round, where they beat Green Bay, once again, 24-21.

That set up an NFC Championship Game showdown with another team from the North, the Detroit Lions, and it was another close matchup too as the Niners erased a large deficit to win 34-31.

Verdict

Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes are back in the big game and who am I to doubt them!

Mahomes has been making big plays in the postseason and that Chiefs defense continues to dominate, so I am backing Kansas City for more Super Bowl glory.
