They then responded to a 4-1 home defeat to Boston by reeling off five consecutive victories.
Carolina beat Washington 4-2 and Columbus 3-0 at home, before heading out on the road to beat Boston 4-1, St Louis 5-2 and Chicago 4-2.
The Hurricanes failed to make it six-in-a-row in their regular season finale though, losing 6-3 at Columbus.
Verdict
New York went 2-0 in Carolina in the regular season and the betting underdog has tended to win recent meetings.
