He is unlikely to receive the same assistance against defending champion Denis Shapovalov, who looks to have found his rhythm this week and has the motivation to mount another strong title run. When the Canadian clicks, his aggressive game can be extremely difficult to contain.

Shapovalov Finds Form at the Right Time
After coming from a set down to defeat Rinky Hijikata in the first round, Denis Shapovalov beat Rodrigo Pacheco Mendez 6-3, 6-2 to reach the quarterfinals in Los Cabos. The Canadian did not face a single break point and won an outstanding 90% of his first-serve points.
This is a much-needed result for Shapovalov, who arrived in Los Cabos as the defending champion after losing seven of his previous eight matches, including five opening-round exits.
The Canadian started the season close to returning to the top 20, but inconsistent results and a dip in form have seen him fall outside the top 60 in the rankings.
Shapovalov has played 14 tournaments this season and has registered multiple main-draw wins at only three of them, highlighted by a semifinal run in Dallas, a quarterfinal appearance in Munich, and a third-round finish at Indian Wells.

Svrcina Builds Confidence in Los Cabos
Dalibor Svrcina secured his place in the Los Cabos quarterfinals after Luciano Darderi retired with injury while trailing 0-3 in the opening set. The Czech had earlier survived a hard-fought three-set battle against Adam Walton in the first round.
The result comes as a welcome boost after a difficult season on the ATP Tour. Before this week, Svrcina had played 10 tour-level events in 2026, with all of them ending in the second round or earlier.
He has registered multiple main-draw wins only twice this season, with both runs coming on the Challenger Tour, where he reached the final in Rome and the semifinals in Poznan.
Svrcina has reached one previous ATP Tour quarterfinal, in Hangzhou last year, where his run ended with a straight-sets defeat to Alexander Bublik.
