Alexander Zverev is not at his absolute best on grass and has never won a title on the surface. However, his vast experience in the latter stages of ATP tournaments, combined with the comfort of playing in home conditions, should still make him a very difficult player to stop. Even so, this does not look like a matchup where he can be expected to dominate from start to finish.

Raphael Collignon arrives with plenty of confidence and momentum, and the in-form Belgian has enough weapons to make life uncomfortable for the top seed.

Collignon Faces His Toughest Test

  • Zverev holds a 7–1 record in grass-court quarterfinals.
  • He owns a 12–2 record against players outside the Top 50 this year.
  • Collignon has a 1–1 record in tour-level quarterfinals.
  • He holds an impressive 2–1 record against Top 10 players.

Zverev Builds on Roland Garros Triumph

Alexander Zverev reached the quarterfinals at his home event in Halle after defeating Vit Kopriva in three sets, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2, and Yannick Hanfmann in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6. He did not face a single break point against Hanfmann and remained in control throughout the match.

This is Zverev's seventh quarterfinal appearance in Halle and his fourth consecutive one. Notably, apart from a defeat to David Goffin at this stage in 2019, he converted each of his previous five Halle quarterfinals into semifinal appearances, underlining his excellent record at the tournament.

Despite consistently producing deep runs on tour, Zverev often fell short in the biggest moments and struggled to turn those opportunities into titles. However, he finally ended that trend a few weeks ago by lifting the biggest title of his career at Roland Garros. That breakthrough could provide the confidence needed to push on during the grass-court season.

Overall, Zverev holds a 7-1 record in grass-court quarterfinals, with his only defeat coming against Goffin in Halle. He also arrives on an eight-match winning streak at the quarterfinal stage in tour-level events.

Collignon's Rise Continues in Germany

Raphael Collignon moved into the quarterfinals in Halle after defeating Mattia Bellucci from a set down, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. After dropping the opening set, he did not face a single break point in the final two sets and took complete control of the match.

It was his fourth win of the week as a qualifier. Before this match, he had defeated all three of his opponents in straight sets, including Roberto Bautista Agut and Alexei Popyrin. The run is particularly impressive considering he had never won a main-draw match on grass before this week.

The Belgian has shown steady progress since the second half of last season, highlighted by a third-round run at the US Open and a semifinal appearance in Brussels. He has continued that rise in 2026 with a quarterfinal in Brisbane, third-round runs in Miami and Roland Garros, and three Challenger finals.

With this result, Collignon moves closer to the Top 40 in the rankings, another reward for the remarkable progress he has made over the last 12 months.
