Andrey Rublev made a typically slow start to the tournament, but he remains the standout player in the field. The top seed and former champion has the game to dominate these conditions, and his level is still well above the rest of the draw when he finds his rhythm. Sebastian Baez, meanwhile, has struggled for form in recent weeks and has not looked entirely convincing despite progressing through the tournament.

Rublev Continues His Quest For The Bastad Title

  • Andrey Rublev is 2–0 in Bastad quarterfinals.
  • He has a 12–3 record against players outside the Top 50 in 2026.
  • Sebastian Baez is 3–0 in tour-level quarterfinals in 2026.
  • He has a 2–4 record against Top 20 players this year.

Rublev Looks to Repeat Past Success

Andrey Rublev secured his place in the quarterfinals after defeating Andrea Pellegrino in a hard-fought three-set battle, 7-6, 6-7, 6-3. He held three match points in the second-set tiebreak but was unable to convert them, forcing the match into a deciding set before eventually sealing the victory.

This is Rublev's third quarterfinal appearance in Bastad. He converted his previous two into a semifinal run in 2022 and the title in 2023, underlining his strong record at the tournament.

Apart from a disappointing grass swing, the Russian has enjoyed a solid season. His highlights include four semifinal-or-better finishes, with his only quarterfinal defeat this year coming against Jannik Sinner at the Rome Masters.

Baez Returns to Bastad Quarterfinals

Sebastian Baez moved into the quarterfinals after defeating Jesper de Jong in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. It was a much more comfortable performance than his opening-round victory over Max Dahlin, which required three sets.

This is the first time Baez has won multiple main-draw matches on tour since Indian Wells in March. It also marks his third quarterfinal appearance in Bastad, having reached the final in 2022 before losing at this stage to Luciano Darderi last year.

Baez has been excellent in quarterfinals this season, winning all three of his previous appearances. Those runs resulted in semifinal finishes in Buenos Aires and Santiago, along with a runner-up finish in Auckland, and he will now look to continue that streak.

Verdict

Rublev should be able to take control if he produces anything close to his best level. Backing Rublev to win and Rublev to win in straight sets.
