Shelton Continues Winning Run on Grass
Ben Shelton defeated Lorenzo Sonego in straight sets to reach the second round in Halle, 7-5, 6-3. Despite dropping serve once in the opening set, he remained in control for most of the match and finished strongly.
The American arrived at the grass-court season short on confidence after failing to win multiple matches in seven of his previous eight tournaments. That stretch raised questions about his form heading into the Wimbledon swing.
However, Shelton responded in impressive fashion in Stuttgart last week, winning four matches to lift his maiden grass-court title. All four victories came in three sets, including wins over Jiri Lehecka and Taylor Fritz in the latter rounds.
He has now won nine of his last 10 matches on grass, a run that also includes his Wimbledon quarterfinal last year. Shelton will be looking to carry that momentum forward and put together another strong week in Halle.

Quinn Advances After Strong Recovery
Ethan Quinn advanced to the second round after coming from a set down to defeat Karen Khachanov, 1-6, 6-4, 6-4. After losing the opening set, the American never trailed again and closed out the match comfortably.
Quinn produced several notable results earlier this season, reaching the third round at both the Australian Open and Miami, while also lifting the Challenger title in Phoenix. Those performances helped him break into the Top 50 for the first time. However, he arrived this week on a four-match losing streak and was searching for a confidence boost.
The American has now played four main-draw matches at tour-level grass-court events and has cleared the opening round in all four of them. However, he has yet to progress beyond the second round and will be looking to change that this week.
