Shelton Survives Thriller to Advance
Ben Shelton booked his place in the Stuttgart final after outlasting Jiri Lehecka 6-7, 7-6, 7-6. He was two points from defeat when facing match points in the second-set tiebreak but managed to stay alive before completing another comeback victory.
Shelton has made a habit of recovering from slow starts this week. He dropped the opening set in all three of his matches but still found a way through each time, defeating Marcos Giron and Sho Shimabukuro before overcoming Lehecka.
Considering his recent results, this run comes at an important moment, as he had failed to win back-to-back matches in seven of his previous eight tournaments.
He owns a 5-2 record in ATP finals and arrives on a three-final winning streak, most recently lifting the title in Munich after defeating Flavio Cobolli.

Fritz Chasing Another Grass-Court Trophy
Taylor Fritz is back in the Stuttgart final after producing his cleanest performance of the week, defeating Alexander Bublik 6-4, 6-4. After being pushed to three sets by both Martin Landaluce and Mattia Bellucci earlier in the tournament, he relied on his serve and first-strike tennis to come through comfortably.
Fitness issues limited his schedule for much of the spring, and he arrived on grass having played only a handful of matches since March.
Fritz now stands one victory away from retaining the Stuttgart crown. He has built one of the strongest grass-court records on tour in recent years, winning all five of his previous finals on the surface.
Four of those titles came in Eastbourne, and another win on Sunday would add Stuttgart to the list of tournaments where he has successfully defended a title in consecutive seasons.
