Ben Shelton has been one of the most in-form players of the grass-court swing, arriving on the back of a title-winning run in Stuttgart last week. He has won five of his six matches on grass this season and should be carrying plenty of confidence into this matchup.

Shelton also owns a recent victory over Taylor Fritz in the Stuttgart final last year, giving him a useful psychological boost ahead of another meeting.

All-American Battle For The Last Four

  • Shelton holds a 2–2 record in tour-level grass-court quarterfinals.
  • He has lost 11 of his last 15 matches against Top 10 players.
  • Fritz owns a 7–4 record in grass-court quarterfinals.
  • He has lost five of his last six matches against fellow Americans.

Shelton Continues Strong Grass-Court Form

Ben Shelton reached the quarterfinals in Halle after defeating Ethan Quinn in three sets, 6-4, 5-7, 6-4. He trailed by a break in the deciding set before fighting back to close out the match.

With the victory, Shelton extended his grass-court winning streak to six matches after lifting his maiden grass-court title in Stuttgart last week. Five of those six wins have come in three-set matches, highlighting his ability to come through tight situations.

The recent results are a welcome turnaround after a difficult stretch between Indian Wells and Roland Garros. During that period, he recorded multiple wins at only one of eight tournaments and struggled to produce consistent results.

Shelton heads into this clash with a 15-13 record in tour-level quarterfinals, including a 3-3 mark in 2026. He has already lifted titles in Dallas, Munich and Stuttgart this season. On grass, he owns a 2-2 record at the quarterfinal stage and will be looking to move into another semifinal this week.

American Finds Form at the Right Time

Taylor Fritz secured his place in the quarterfinals after defeating Fabian Marozsan in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4. It was a far more comfortable performance than his opening-round battle against Zizou Bergs earlier this week, which turned into a long and demanding contest.

This is Fritz's best result in Halle. He had made two previous appearances at the event, in 2016 and 2019, and lost in the opening round on both occasions.

After a solid start to the season that included a fourth-round run at the Australian Open and a runner-up finish in Dallas, the American's level dipped and he also dealt with fitness issues from March onwards. As a result, he limited his clay-court schedule in order to focus on recovery.

That decision appears to be paying off. Fritz reached the final while defending his title in Stuttgart last week and has now backed it up with a quarterfinal run in Halle. He heads into this clash with a 7-4 record in grass-court quarterfinals and arrives on a four-match winning streak.

Verdict

Considering his current form, momentum, and the confidence that comes from recent success on the surface, Shelton looks very appealing at underdog odds. Backing Shelton to win, Shelton to win in straight sets, and under 2.5 sets in the match all stand out as attractive options.
