Luciano Darderi has not been at his very best this week and has had to work hard to come through his matches. Even so, the defending champion remains a proven clay-court player and has every reason to give his maximum effort as he looks to retain the Bastad title. His experience in these conditions should prove valuable against Daniel Vallejo, who is relatively inexperienced at this stage of tour events.

Darderi Eyes Another Bastad Final

  • Daniel Vallejo is 0–1 against Top 20 players in his career.
  • He is competing in his maiden tour-level semifinal.
  • Luciano Darderi holds a 6–4 career record in tour-level semifinals.
  • He has a 17–9 record against players outside the Top 50 in 2026.

Vallejo Continues Dream Run

Daniel Adolfo Vallejo moved into the semifinals after defeating Stefano Travaglia in straight sets, 7-6, 6-2. Earlier in the tournament, he survived a tough three-set battle against Botic van de Zandschulp.

Before 2025, Vallejo had never won a tour-level main-draw match. This season, however, he has produced several breakthrough results, including a third-round run in Madrid, his first main-draw victory at the French Open, and four Challenger finals.

Those performances, combined with this impressive run, will see him move close to making his top 60 debut in the rankings next week.

Darderi Chasing Another Clay-Court Title

Luciano Darderi defeated Nuno Borges in straight sets, 7-6, 6-4, to book his place in the semifinals. He produced a remarkable comeback from 1-5 down in the first-set tiebreak before taking control of the match.

This is Darderi's fifth ATP semifinal of the season. His best results include a semifinal in Rome, a runner-up finish in Buenos Aires, and the title in Santiago, performances that helped him break into the top 20.

Darderi heads into this clash with a 6-4 career record in ATP tour-level semifinals. However, he has lost each of his last two semifinal appearances and will be aiming to end that run this week.
