Camilo Ugo Carabelli has produced some excellent results during this clay swing, but the major concern surrounding him now is physical fatigue. He has already played several demanding matches on clay in recent weeks and even made a quarterfinal run in Hamburg last week after coming through three tight battles. There is a strong possibility that all that workload and court time starts catching up with him physically here.
  • Emilio Nava holds a 3–3 first-round record in Grand Slams.
  • He failed to win a match in seven of his 10 tour-level events this year.
  • Ugo Carabelli owns a disappointing 1–6 first-round Grand Slam record.
  • He has a 13–7 record against players outside the Top 50 on clay this year.

This will be their first meeting.
Emilio Nava qualified for the main draw at the French Open after defeating three strong opponents in consecutive straight-set matches, Bu Yunchaokete, Thiago Seyboth Wild and Pedro Martinez.

The 24-year-old has produced mixed results throughout 2026. His best performances include a third-round run in Madrid, a quarterfinal appearance in Santiago and a runner-up finish at the Oeiras Challenger, but 10 of his 16 tournaments ended either in qualifying or the opening round.

This marks Nava’s fourth appearance at French Open and his third main-draw campaign in Paris. His only previous Grand Slam main-draw victory came against Botic van de Zandschulp in straight sets last year.

Ugo Carabelli Searching For Consistency

Camilo Ugo Carabelli has experienced a more difficult season compared to last year, and his inconsistent results during the opening five months pushed him outside the top 50 rankings earlier this season.

Despite those struggles, the Argentine has still shown flashes of strong clay-court tennis. He reached the semifinals in Marrakech and made quarterfinal appearances in Buenos Aires and Hamburg last week, results that should give him confidence heading into Paris.

Ugo Carabelli has made only two previous main-draw appearances at French Open. He reached the second round in 2022 before suffering an opening-round defeat last year.

Verdict

Emilio Nava has also spent plenty of time on clay this season, but he arrives fresher and comes into this match after a confident qualifying campaign. That should put him in a strong position to exploit any fatigue issues on the Carabelli side. Backing Nava to win and cover the -1.5 sets handicap both look like attractive options here.
