Former Champion Eyes Another Deep Run

Marco Cecchinato qualified for the main draw after comfortable victories over Duje Ajdukovic 6-3, 6-4, and Genaro Alberto Olivieri 6-2, 6-4.

The Italian has struggled on the ATP Tour this season, failing to qualify for the main draw in all four of his tour-level events. However, he has enjoyed a productive year on the Challenger Tour, posting nine quarterfinal-or-better finishes, including a runner-up finish in Milan last week.

This is his eighth main-draw appearance in Umag. He has cleared the opening-round hurdle in five of his previous seven appearances, including lifting the 2018 title.

Burruchaga Looks to Bounce Back

Roman Burruchaga recently achieved a career-high ranking of No. 56 after reaching the Houston final, winning the Sao Paulo Challenger title, and making the semifinals in Cagliari.

However, he has been unable to build on those results in recent weeks, failing to win a match in five of his last seven tournaments.

This is Burruchaga's debut appearance in Umag. He heads into the event with a 4-5 record in opening-round matches at tour level this season.

Verdict

Roman Burruchaga has enjoyed the stronger overall season, but his recent dip in form and Marco Cecchinato's momentum from qualifying make this a closer contest than expected. Cecchinato has an excellent record in Umag, and backing over 22.5 games and Cecchinato +3.5 games offers good value.
