Thiago Agustin Tirante Looks to Continue His Rapid Rise
Thiago Agustin Tirante survived a tight three-set battle against Jan Choinski to reach the second round in Cincinnati, 7-6, 6-7, 7-6. After missing chances to close out the match in straight sets, he trailed 1-4 and then again 1-4 in the deciding tiebreak before making a comeback to seal the match.
The 25-year-old has posted breakthrough results this year, especially at Masters level, reaching the fourth round in back-to-back Masters events in Rome and Montreal and the third round in Madrid.
He also reached the semifinal in Houston, the quarterfinals in Rio de Janeiro and Bastad, and the third round at the French Open earlier this year. These results helped him close in on the top 50 before making his debut inside that group a few weeks ago.
