Houston head out on the road still seeking a first win of 2025, having dropped their first two games of 2024.
The Roughnecks endured a miserable first season in the UFL, winning just once, and little was expected of them coming into the 2025 campaign.
They have so far lived up the pre-season belief that they are the league’s worst team, going 0-2 and averaging just 7.5 points per game.
Houston opened up the season at home and suffered a blowout defeat at the hands of St Louis, losing 31-6.
The Roughnecks’ defense performed better a week later, but it was not enough to prevent the team from falling to an 11-9 defeat in Arlington.
Memphis Showboats Form
Memphis go into this game also still looking for a first win of the campaign, having opened with back-to-back defeats.
The Showboats fared only slightly better than Houston during the inaugural campaign, going 2-8 during the regular season.
Both of those victories came against the Roughnecks though, as they won 18-12 on the road in Week 1 and 19-12 at home in Week 10.
Memphis failed to start this season with a victory however, as they were beaten 26-12 at home by Michigan on opening weekend.
The Showboats then went out on the road in Week 2, and fell to a 17-12 defeat at the hands of the DC Defenders.
Verdict
Two bad teams go head-to-head in Saturday’s game, but Memphis offer more reasons for optimism.
They also beat Houston in both regular season meetings in 2024, so we are leaning towards the Showboats in a low-scoring grind.
