New York Yankees at Boston Red Sox Picks & Betting Tips

New York (87 67) has won four straight games and moved within one game of Boston, for the AL’s top wild card spot, with Friday’s 8-3 victory over the Red Sox. The Yankees are currently in the AL’s fifth spot, two games clear of both the Blue Jays and Mariners.

The Yankees are 7-3 in their last 10. New York is 42-34 on the road and 58-44 vs. RHPs.

Cortes is coming off his worst outing of the month, allowing five hits and three runs over 4.1 innings of work (Sept. 20) in a 4-3 win over Texas. The 26-year-old is 2-2 with a 2.94 ERA and 1.07 WHIP in 12 starts.

Boston (88-66) is in fourth place in the AL, one-game ahead of New York for the top wild card spot and two-games ahead of both Seattle and Toronto.

Boston is 7-3 in its last 10 games. The Red Sox is 49-30 at home and 33-27 vs LHPs.

Pivetta allowed 7 hits and 3 runs, including a pair of home runs, over 3.2 innings of work in a 9-3 victory over Baltimore. The 28-year-old has not gone 6 innings in any of his last five games, allowing three or more runs in four of those contests.

Head To Head

The Yankees scored three runs in the first inning and led 7-0 after three innings en route to a 8-3 victory over the Red Sox on Friday. New York rapped out 15 hits, with Giancarlo Stanton and Gleybar Torres each collecting three hits apiece, and Gerrit Cole allowed three runs over 6 innings.

The Yankees have won five of the last six matchups against the Red Sox, but they still trail in the season series 10-7.  Boston has won six of the eight contests at Fenway. The Sox have outscored the Yanks 69-63 in the series.

New York Yankees Form

The Yankees have won four straight and are 11-11 in September, getting outscored 110-100.

The Yankees’ offense is averaging 5.2 runs over the last 14 games while compiling a slash line of .262/.336/.509.

New York’s pitching staff has compiled an 9-5 record over this 14 game-stretch with a 4.16 ERA, 1.37 WHIP, and .252 OBA.

Boston Red Sox Form

The Red Sox had their seven-game winning streak snapped in Friday’s night loss to the Yankees.
Boston is 13-7 in September, outscoring its opponents 122-98.

Boston’s offense has compiled 6.5 runs over the last 12 games with a slash line of .273/.348/.487.

The Red Sox’s pitching staff has compiled an 8-4 record during this 12-game stretch with a 4.02 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and .250 OBA.

Verdict

This is a very important game for both squads as neither team wants to lose ground. Both teams are in good form and each offense has been really clicking recently.

There could be a lot of runs scored in this game as neither Cortes or Pivetta has had much success against their opponents. However, I will go with the Red Sox to bounce back as they have hit left-handers’ starters very well (.262) and at Fenway (.282). Plus, Boston’s hitters have been more successful during day games than Yankees batters.
