Fils Continues Strong Season Form

Arthur Fils continues to impress this season and arrives after a title-winning run in Barcelona. He defeated Lorenzo Musetti, Rafael Jodar, and Andrey Rublev in the later rounds to lift the trophy.

Last year, he also showed strong form in the first half of the season, but an injury during the French Open disrupted his progress and forced him to end the year early.

He has bounced back strongly in 2026, reaching at least the quarterfinals in five of his six tournaments, including a final and semifinal run in Miami, bringing him close to a top-20 return.

Fils has played Madrid twice before but lost in the opening round both times. With his current momentum, he will aim for a breakthrough result this week.

Buse Breaks Through At Masters

Ignacio Buse advanced to the second round in Madrid with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Adrian Mannarino. He fired seven aces and saved the only break point he faced.

This is his first main-draw win at Masters level. His only previous match in a Masters main draw came in Miami, where he lost to Damir Dzumhur in three sets.

It is a much-needed result for the 22-year-old, who started the season well with a semifinal in Rio and a second round in Buenos Aires, but then managed only one main-draw win across his next six events.

Verdict

With momentum, confidence, and a favorable matchup on his side, Fils is well placed to deliver a commanding performance. Backing Fils to win in straight sets and to cover the -3.5 games handicap looks like a good approach.
