Katie Taylor vs Chantelle Cameron Preview & Picks
Katie Taylor is tipped to become a two-weight undisputed world champion.
Taylor’s experience of fighting on the biggest of stages is likely to be key to this world title fight.
She is not known for finishes though, so the Irish star is backed to take this one on the scorecards.
- Katie Taylor has a 22-0 professional record
- 16 of Taylor’s 22 career wins have come by decision
- 6 of Chantelle Cameron’s last 7 fights have gone the distance
Katie Taylor Form
Katie Taylor is the undisputed world lightweight champion with a 22-0 (6 KOs) professional record.
The former Olympic gold medallist turned pro in November 2016, and won her first world title less than a year later.
She beat Anahi Ester Sanchez by unanimous decision to win the vacant WBA title that night, and has not looked back since.
Taylor claimed the IBF title with a decision win over Victoria Bustos in April 2018, and March 2019 she added the WBO title to her collection by stopping Rose Volante in the ninth round.
The 36-year-old Irish star then became the undisputed lightweight champion in her next fight as she earned a majority decision win against Delfine Persoon to win the WBC and Ring Magazine belts.
Taylor became a two-weight world champion in her next fight, beating Christina Linardatou by decision to claim the WBO super-lightweight champion, but she soon returned to lightweight.
She made successful defences against Miriam Gutierrez, Natasha Jonas, Jennifer Han and Firuza Sharipova to set up a huge fight with Amanda Serrano in April 2022.
Taylor was victorious on that historic night at Madison Square Garden, scrapping her way to a split decision victory.
The Irishwoman then took her record to 22-0 last October with a unanimous decision win over Karen Carabajal.
Chantelle Cameron Form
Chantelle Cameron is the undisputed world super-lightweight champion with a professional record of 17-0 (8 KOs).
Cameron made her professional debut in May 2017 and by the end of that year she was a world champion.
She beat Viviane Obenauf by sixth-round stoppage to win the vacant IBO world lightweight title.
The 31-year-old English fighter made a couple of defences of that crown as she continued to stack up wins before challenging for a super-lightweight title in October 2020.
Cameron successfully became a two-weight champion that night, beating Adriana Araujo for the vacant WBC belt.
She then stopped Melissa Hernandez in the fifth round in her first defence of the belt, before going on to establish herself as the number one fighter in the weight class.
The English ace won the IBF and Ring Magazine titles via a unanimous decision against Mary McGee, and then retained all three of her belts with a unanimous decision victory over Victoria Bustos.
That set up a big unification fight with Jessica McCaskill in November 2022, and Cameron was crowned the undisputed champion at super-lightweight.
She won the bout by unanimous decision to leave Abu Dhabi with the WBC, IBF, WBA, WBO, IBO and Ring Magazine titles.
Verdict
Katie Taylor is moving up a weight class for the biggest test of her career so far.
The Irish superstar is backed to pass that test though, and delight her hometown crowd with a decision win.
