Derrick Lewis is a former heavyweight title contender with a professional record of 28-12 (23 KOs, 1 Sub) with 1 No Contest.
Lewis debuted in the UFC back in 2014 and got off to a slow start as he lost two of his first three fights.
His career kicked off after that though as he reeled off six consecutive wins; a run that include knockout wins over Gabriel Gonzaga and Travis Browne and a decision victory over Roy Nelson.
The 40-year-old’s run was halted by a knockout loss to Mark Hunt, but he rebounded to win his next three fights and receive his first title shot.
Lewis sandwiched a points win over Francis Ngannou with knockout victories against Marcin Tybura and Alexander Volkov, but in the biggest fight of his career to that date he was submitted by Daniel Cormier in the second round.
‘Black Beast’ was then knocked out by Junior dos Santos, but he again rallied with four straight wins to get back into title contention.
However, he again came up short as he was knocked out by Ciryl Gane in an interim title fight, and despite rebounded with a first-round knockout if Chris Daukaus, he soon fell down the ladder.
Lewis was knocked out by Tai Tuivasa and Sergei Pavlovich, and then suffered a submission defeat at the hands of Serghei Spivac.
He rallied to knock out Marcos Rogerio de Lima, only to then drop a decision to Jailton Almeida.
The heavyweight veteran does go into this fight on the back of a win though, having knocked out Rodrigo Nascimento in the third round last year.
Tallison Teixeira Form
Tallison Teixeira is a heavyweight fighter with a professional record of 8-0 (7 KOs, 1 Sub).
Teixeira made his professional debut in October 2021 and reeled off four straight first-round knockout wins on the Brazilian domestic scene.
He then joined the Legacy Fighting Alliance and fought twice in the first five months of 2024 to to earn the UFC’s attention.
The 25-year-old Brazilian knocked out Arthur Fonseca in 211 seconds in his LFA debut, and backed that up with a 115-second demolition of Matheus Fonseca.
That earned Teixeira a spot on Dana White’s Contender Series and he made a splash by taking out Arthur Lopes in just under two minutes.
The Brazilian received his UFC debut after that, and in February he made an impact with a 35-second knockout of Justin Tafa in his first fight for the promotion.
Verdict
Derrick Lewis will always offer some threat with his power, but there is also plenty of vulnerability.
Tallison Teixeira is the younger, fresher fighter with bags of stopping power, so we expect the Brazilian to finish ‘Black Beast’ in this main event fight.
