Miami rebounded from that loss by edging #22 USC, 68-66, in the first round of March Madness.
The Hurricanes had to fend off a second-half fightback from the Trojans in that one, but had no such drama against #8 Auburn.
They did not jump out to a big half-time lead in the second round, but they erupted offensively in the second half to take down the Tigers, 79-61.
Isaiah Wong put up 21 points and had six rebounds, while Charlie Moore registered 15 points, nine rebounds and eight assists in a fine individual performance.
Iowa State Form
Iowa State have defied pre-tournament expectations to make it through to the Sweet 16.
The Cyclones lost their final two games of the regular season and then went one-and-done in the conference tournament.
They were dominated in a 72-41 defeat at the hands of Texas Tech in the Big 12 tourney.
Iowa State responded to that with a hard-earned 59-54 win over Louisiana State in the first round of March Madness.
The Cyclones then followed that up with a 54-49 upset of #14 Wisconsin in the second round.
Gabe Kalscheur played a starring role in the upset as he registered 22 points to go along with four rebounds.
Verdict
Miami have ousted two ranked teams so, at least on paper, this is the ‘easiest’ game they have faced.
Iowa State have just sprung an upset themselves, but they do not score many points and that is likely to be their undoing here.
