However, they stopped the rot with a 15-9 win against Green Bay and then backed that up on the road with a 31-30 win at Chicago and 31-18 success at the New York Giants.
Their run was halted by Buffalo, but the Lions immediately rebounded to blow out Jacksonville 40-14.
Detroit then downed Minnesota 34-23 in a big divisional game before beating the New York Jets 20-17 on the road.
A 37-23 loss in Carolina was a massive setback in their postseason push, but the Lions again bounced back quickly as they blew out Chicago 41-10 a week ago.
Green Bay Packers Form
Green Bay have put their playoff fate in their own hands by winning each of their last four games.
The Packers made a solid start to the season as they won three of their first four games, but their form nose-dived in early October.
They lost five consecutive games to fall to 3-6, before finally snapping that skid with a surprise 31-28 overtime win against Dallas.
Green Bay failed to back that up though as they lost back-to-back games to Tennessee and Philadelphia.
They were able to get back to winning ways before the bye week though, winning 28-19 in Chicago.
The Packers then followed that up by sandwiching a 26-20 win at Miami with home wins against the Los Angeles Rams (24-12) and Minnesota (41-17).
