Michelsen Breaks New Ground at Roland Garros
Alex Michelsen reached the third round at the French Open after defeating two players ranked outside the Top 80, overcoming Alexander Shevchenko in straight sets and Nishesh Basavareddy in four sets.
This is Michelsen’s best result at Roland Garros. In his previous two appearances, he failed to record a main-draw victory in Paris.
After strong runs to the fourth round at both Indian Wells and Miami, the American struggled to find his rhythm on clay. However, a quarterfinal appearance in Geneva last week helped restore his confidence and he has carried that momentum into this tournament.
Michelsen owns a 1-1 record in Grand Slam third-round matches. Both appearances came at the Australian Open, where he lost at this stage in 2024 before reaching the fourth round in 2025.

Clay-Court Form Powers Jodar Forward
Rafael Jodar moved into the third round after defeating James Duckworth in four sets, 6-1, 6-7, 6-4, 7-5. Jodar was broken twice but created constant pressure on return, converting six of the 21 break-point chances he earned.
The Spaniard's transition to tour-level tennis has been impressive. After recording multiple main-draw wins for the first time at Miami earlier this season, he has elevated his game significantly during the clay swing, winning 17 of his last 20 matches.
Jodar has reached at least the quarterfinals in all four clay-court events he has played this year, including his maiden ATP title in Marrakech. Those results helped him break into the Top 30 after starting the season outside the Top 160.
Before this week, Jodar had made only one Grand Slam appearance. That came at the Australian Open earlier this year, where he reached the second round on debut.
