Jaime Faria moved into the second round after defeating Botic van de Zandschulp in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. It was his first main-draw win in Estoril after losing in the opening round on his debut in 2024.
The 22-year-old has produced several notable results on tour this season, reaching the quarterfinals in Rio de Janeiro and the third round at the French Open, his best Grand Slam result.
He also recorded main-draw wins at both the Australian Open and Wimbledon. Those performances have taken him close to his career-high ranking of No. 87.
Faria is now one win away from reaching his fourth ATP Tour quarterfinal, with all three of his previous quarterfinals coming on South American clay.

Bueno Eyes First ATP Quarterfinal
Gonzalo Bueno advanced to the second round in Estoril after defeating Tiago Pereira in three sets. He also came through qualifying with wins over Andrea Pellegrino and Henrique Rocha.
It has been an impressive week for the 22-year-old, who had never previously competed in an ATP Tour event, including the qualifying stages. He is now one win away from reaching his maiden ATP Tour quarterfinal.
Bueno has reached at least the quarterfinals in seven Challenger events this season. He will look to take confidence from those performances as he prepares for this clash.
