Alexander Bublik suffered a disappointing title defense in Gstaad last week, crashing out in the opening round after lifting the trophy there 12 months ago. He now heads to Kitzbuhel with another title to defend and should be highly motivated to avoid another early exit. The altitude and quicker clay conditions are well suited to his powerful serve and attacking style, making this an ideal opportunity to respond.

Bublik Looks To Make Another Fast Start

  • Bublik holds a 10–6 record in tour-level opening-round matches in 2026.
  • He owns a 5–2 record against players outside the Top 100 this season.
  • Facundo Díaz Acosta has a 0–4 career record against Top 20 players.
  • He has not registered multiple tour-level wins at the same event since Auckland last year.

This will be their first meeting.

Bublik Returns to Defend His Crown

Alexander Bublik enjoyed a successful grass-court swing, reaching the semifinals in Stuttgart and the fourth round at Wimbledon. However, his return to clay ended in a first-round defeat in Gstaad, where he was unable to defend his title after losing to Quentin Halys in three sets.

The Kazakh is once again defending a title this week in Kitzbuhel, having lifted the trophy last year after winning four consecutive matches.

Apart from a difficult spell between Dubai and Rome, Bublik has produced consistent results throughout the season, winning the Hong Kong title while also reaching the semifinals in Rotterdam, Geneva, and Stuttgart.

Diaz Acosta Looks to Carry Momentum Forward

Facundo Diaz Acosta came from a set down to defeat Federico Cina 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 and reach the second round in Kitzbuhel. He trailed by a break in the deciding set before producing a strong comeback to seal the victory.

The Argentine has enjoyed an impressive season on the Challenger Tour, reaching five finals and one semifinal, but has struggled to reproduce that form at ATP Tour level.

Before this week, he had played only three tour-level events this season and recorded just one main-draw victory, which came at the French Open two months ago. He is now aiming to reach his first ATP Tour quarterfinal since Auckland last year.

Verdict

Faced with an out-of-form Facundo Diaz Acosta, Bublik has every chance to make a strong start to his title defense. Backing Bublik to win and a tiebreak to be played in the match are worth considering.
