There is not a great deal separating Matteo Berrettini and Arthur Rinderknech at the moment, as both players have been operating at a fairly subpar level in recent weeks. At the same time, both possess strong serves and hold-oriented games, which increases the likelihood of tight sets and potentially multiple tiebreaks during the match.

Power Clash On Clay

  • Arthur Rinderknech holds a 0–2 second-round record at the French Open.
  • He owns a 5–2 record against players outside the Top 100.
  • Matteo Berrettini has not registered multiple wins in a Grand Slam since 2023.
  • He holds a 7–7 record against Top 50 players in the last 12 months.

Rinderknech Builds on Geneva Momentum

Arthur Rinderknech defeated Jurij Rodionov in straight sets, 7-6, 6-2, 6-3, to reach the second round at the French Open. The Frenchman fired nine aces and saved five of the seven break points he faced during the match.

Rinderknech recently gained momentum in Geneva, where he reached the quarterfinals. It was only the second time this season he recorded multiple match wins and his first such run on clay this year.

The Frenchman will now look to build on that momentum during the coming weeks. With very few ranking points to defend before the grass season, a couple of strong results could help improve his ranking significantly.

Rinderknech has played 24 Grand Slam main draws so far and managed multiple wins only three times. Two of those runs came last season at Wimbledon and the US Open, results he will hope to draw confidence from here.

Berrettini Seeks Fresh Momentum

Matteo Berrettini came from a set down to defeat Marton Fucsovics 6-7, 7-5, 6-1, 6-2 and reach the second round. The Italian fired 14 aces and saved six of the seven break points he faced during the match.

Berrettini has struggled with fitness problems in recent years, which have interrupted his progress and affected his consistency. While he has still produced occasional strong results, maintaining momentum week after week has remained difficult.

The Italian has played nine tour-level events this season and recorded multiple main-draw wins only three times, including quarterfinal runs in Rio de Janeiro and third-round appearances in Miami and Monte Carlo.

Berrettini is now aiming to record multiple Grand Slam main-draw wins for the first time since Wimbledon 2023. This is also his first appearance at the French Open since his quarterfinal run in Paris back in 2021.

Verdict

Backing over 38.5 games and a tiebreak to be played both look like strong approaches here. Rinderknech also deserves consideration as an outright winner given the home advantage and the fact that he has still managed to produce some respectable results in high-profile tournaments despite his recent times.
