Shelton Eyes Another Montreal Triumph

Ben Shelton continued his title defense in dominant fashion by defeating Learner Tien in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3, to reach the final in Montreal. He has now won all five matches in straight sets this week, showing his dominant performance throughout the tournament.

The American is now one win away from successfully defending his Canadian Open title. He has won nine consecutive matches at this tournament since last year's title run and will be looking to extend that streak against another American.

Shelton has produced another strong season, winning titles in Dallas, Munich and Stuttgart, while also reaching the Australian Open semifinal. He is now playing his fourth final of the year and will be looking to add another title to his season.

Overall, he has a 6-2 record in tour-level finals and is currently on a four-match winning streak at this stage.

Nakashima Chases Biggest Title of His Career

Brandon Nakashima reached his first Masters 1000 final after defeating rising youngster Rafael Jodar in straight sets, 7-6, 6-4. He needed five match points to close out the match but held his nerve to secure the biggest result of his career so far.

This is also his first final above ATP 250 level and his best result at the Canadian Open. He had previously reached the round of 16 five times at Masters 1000 level before finally making a deeper run this week.

Nakashima has been particularly consistent during the North American swing. He reached the semifinal in Washington before continuing his run in Montreal, where he has now won four matches to reach his maiden Masters 1000 final.

He has a 1-3 record in tour-level finals, with his only win coming against Marcos Giron in San Diego four years ago.

Verdict

Nakashima should not be underestimated, but Shelton's perfect head-to-head record and his ability to raise his level on the biggest occasions make him the clear pick here. Backing Ben Shelton to win is the main tip, while Shelton to win in three sets, over 22.5 games and a tiebreaker in the match also offer appeal.
